We subscribe to the Episcopalian view of Youth Ministries; calling for passion, patience, and faithfulness – pointing out the sacred in the midst of the chaos of adolescence and walking faithfully with young people as they transition from child to young adult. At Grace, we understand that Youth Ministries must be a bridging ministry of education, connection, formation, and hopefully, transformation. We also understand and have learned from our past experiences that responding to the spiritual needs of teens is about building trusting relationships and inspiring them to fulfil their potential as future Christian leaders in their lives and in their communities.
Our youth events include field trips to local area sites, fun events, Grace Cathedral overnight stays, Six Flag’s trips, and simply getting together to have pizza and discuss what’s going on their lives. We subscribe to the philosophy that peer support is essential to any successful youth group. This is why our children have grown from nine-year old acolytes to high school age acolytes and active members of the youth group. We currently have eight acolytes and about 10 members in our Youth Group.
Our most recent Youth Minister had to resign after having a new baby and taking on a new more demanding job. As a result, the Vestry has temporarily taken on the responsibility to ensure that there are monthly Youth Group meetings throughout the coming school year. We continue to look for a new Youth Minister and look forward to working with our new Rector in this effort. We especially look forward to reaching out to other congregations in the Deanery and within the Diocese for more cooperative youth program efforts.
The Grace Church Youth Group meets the last Sunday of each month from 6:30-8 p.m. during the school year. Feel free to contact firstname.lastname@example.org about special events and/or any questions that you may have about our Youth Group. All Sr. and Jr. High youth are welcome to attend and to bring friends.
